Messy Church activities in Kenya

We love to receive stories of the quiet work that is going on in your Messy Churches. We recently received this information from Karen Stobart:
Kuwakaribisha kila mtu manufaa yake ya kuona wewe hapa (Swahili for ‘Welcome everybody it’s good to see you here’, one of Fischy Music’s songs).
Tockwith Church, near York, supports an orphanage with approximately 34 children near Kipcheria, Western Kenya. Each child has a unique story and an amazing work ethic. Prayer is an important part of their lives. Tockwith Church make this tough journey twice a year and they are greeted by the children who sing ‘Welcome everybody’ to them with actions.
On a Sunday the children attend the Arise and Shine Church. Tockwith Church are asked to lead the 120-strong Sunday school, so they take Messy Church themes and activities to share with them. On a recent visit they used the ‘Two Tiny Coins’ Bible theme from the Get Messy! magazine and took 130 wooden spoons and dishcloths for the puppets activity. They also took Messy Church balloons and used bananas as Kenyan shillings. They sing Fischy Music songs with actions and enjoy juice and biscuits after the sessions. The children walk for miles to attend church and ages range from 2 to 16. The children do not have toys and the majority do not have mattresses to sleep on at night, yet they come to praise the Lord and give him thanks.
You can discover more on the Tockwith Church website, Facebook page and the Bungoma Calling charity.
