Get Messy! is a four-monthly subscription resource for Messy Church leaders. Each issue contains four session outlines (one per month), including planning sheets and take-home handouts, together with information on the latest resources and events. It also seeks to encourage and refresh Messy Church leaders by providing monthly Bible studies, a column on taking time to recharge, and a problem page. Other features include a youth column, a day in the life of a Regional Coordinator and stories from Messy Churches around the world.
In this issue:
- A holy temple
- The ten bridesmaids
- Peace and comfort
- Christmas – Joseph
The passage from Ephesians for September is a good hands-on one to have fun with: building, construction, sticking things together – these are all obviously delightful Messy things to create together, just as the verse urges us to enjoy our ‘togetherness’ in Christ.
Some of your families may enjoy the neat contrast of construction in Christ after the destruction of the Tower of Babel. A sense of communal growth, not just individual growth, is important for discipleship.
In October, when groups of people are out at night with torches, we’re looking at the parable of the ten bridesmaids (sorry, southern hemisphere, if it’s not so dark with you), and exploring what Jesus has to say about being ready for him.
For November, we are reminded that the Spirit is described by Jesus as ‘the Comforter’, coming alongside us when we are most bereft. We are hearing sad stories of early deaths and illnesses in Messy families, as the network grows, so bringing God’s comfort into dark situations is a vital part of our Messy Church’s ministry.
December brings Christmas, so this year we’re looking at the wonderful Christmas story from Joseph’s point of view.
