In this issue:

  • Listening to God
  • Hidden treasure
  • The unforgiving servant
  • Mary anoints Jesus

In detail:

In January we enjoy the story of Samuel, the young boy who listened to God calling his name, and think about God calling not just adults but children too; celebrating the faithfulness of mothers like Hannah and the elderly like Eli, while we ourselves listen for God’s voice.

In February we’ll scratch our heads over Jesus’ pair of parables of the Kingdom: the pearl and the hidden treasure in the field, and the way the discovery of something of great worth provokes drastic action.

In March we get to know another of Jesus’ parables, this time the hard-hitting story about the servant who refused to forgive his colleague even though he had been let off a huge debt himself. We look at this key Christian theme of forgiveness, the brokennes that we can both cause and suffer from, and the way that grace provides healing.

For April‘s session, we take a step back and a slightly different angle on Easter as we focus on the account of Mary anointing Jesus before his trials begin, a story that highlights the themes of sacrifice and of pouring out the best we have, just as the woman did; just as Jesus did superlatively on the cross.
